Given the hyper-competitive environment we live in today, it can be difficult to get noticed, let alone be the leader in your industry. The Five S methodology, a Japanese management system that relies on standardisation and habit-formation can help you improve business processes. 

The Five S methodology stands for:

• Sort (Seiri) – Sort all the tools, devices, and equipment in your business.
• Set in Order (Seiton) – The sorted tools and equipment should be placed according to its usage.
• Shine (Seiso) – Shine pertains to regular upkeep and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Standardise (Seiketsu) – It is important to standardise the processes you have set in place to reap the benefits of the 5S methodology.
• Sustain (Shitsuke) – Similar to KAIZEN™ and other Lean principles, the 5S system also relies on a continuous, long-term approach. 

The methodology focuses on cutting down waste, which in turn boosts productivity and efficiency.

Waste in an organisation can include wasteful movements, transportation, rejection, and faulty products. For instance, by settings things in order according to their use, Five S methodology directly reduces wasteful movements, thus making your process more efficient. 

Our training program on Five S Implementation & Audit - Certification, held from 21st - 23rd May 2019 in Pune, Lemon Tree was the first ever public certification program organised by Kaizen Institute in India.

The program was purely developed to certify the attendees by Gemba Learning. It was designed to teach the attendees through practical experience of learning by doing. The training had Audit and visits to plant who are rated as 5S Champions with the help of Kaizen Institute.

Day 1 - Learnt the concepts of Five S and took part in a  live Gemba Audit Session at the Lemon Tree Hotel

Day 2 - They visited KAIZEN™ Implemented companies who are champions in using Five S as a strategic tool to achieve ROI through OPEX 

• Continental Automotive Components
• Mahindra Accelo - Mahindra Steel Service Center

Day 3 - Visited the first every LEED Gold Certified Small Green Office of KAIZEN™ Insititute L & G Spaces. Learnt how KAIZEN™ is applied at Kaizen Institute and office spaces with the help of Five S. 

Day 3 - After all learning session's they took a written exam to get certified as 5S Auditor and Implementer
